Microsoft BlueTrack Peripherals Work Anywhere
Microsoft may not be the first company you think of when computer peripherals come to mind, but it has always made some pretty good ones. The company doesn’t usually do hardware, but in the keyboard and mouse department, it has a solid track record. The new BlueTrack Technology that is going into the two new mice Redmond just announced looks to up its game.
BlueTrack is the tracking technology built into the Wireless Mouse 5000 and the Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000 that Microsoft claims will work on more surfaces than both optical and laser mice. If you have used either a laser or optical mouse and encountered a surface that wouldn’t track accurately, then the new BlueTrack mice may be worth a look. I’m in the market for a good mobile mouse, and that 6000 looks pretty good to me. The BlueTrack mice and a couple of new wireless keyboards should be available in June.

It would be nice if these mice had BlueTOOTH as well
As most things are, its all about the size of the dongle. In this case it has to be as small as possible. Nothing worse than having a dongle that has to stick 2 or 3 inches out of your mobile device.
After struggling with 2 or 3 different mice that were slow and inaccurate on the grantie counter top my wife uses, I bought her a Microsoft Explorer Blue Track mouse. It is the most accurate mouse I have ever used! While listing to the Windows Weekly podcast, I heard Paul Thurrott recommend these after testing them on different surfaces. My wife’s computer is an iMac and the mouse worked right out of the box.
Do you also have a time machine, or is the new thing really the two particular models, but not the technology behind it? (as I gathered from the story)
The press release says both the technology and these mice are new.
Darn press releases…. can’t trust those marketers any farther than you can throw your iPhone
Amazon has the Explorer with this description: “The Microsoft® Explorer Mouse, with revolutionary Microsoft BlueTrack™ Technology, works more places than ever before, including on granite countertops, living room or airport carpets—even on a wood table or rough, unfinished park bench.”
Date first available at Amazon.com: September 9, 2008
I just bought one and love it. Really does work on far more surfaces than regular red laser mice.
Wow this is a great mouse I really do like just a pity it does not had Blue Tooth that would have come in very handy.
I have just come across your blog and have found some post very interesting

Now someone just needs to release some new, good bluetooth *portable* keyboards these days. Such seem to be swiftly becoming an artifact of the past.
