UMID M1 Now Shipping Globally
I haven’t been too impressed with the UMID M1 since playing with one at CES early this year. However, the little laptop excites some folks, so those who fit in that category will be happy to hear that it is now shipping globally. All you have to do is pony up at least $659 for the starting configuration and wait for the FedEx guy to appear at your door.
Justek is the Australian retailer selling the M1 globally and they have both a Linux and a Windows XP version to choose from.

I know you really like the Viliv S5. But why are you lukewarm about the UMID M1?
Not a slate, useless keyboard (for me) takes up space and adds weight.
James, makes sense. Thanks for the prompt response.
According to Dynamism’s listed specs, the M1 is lighter. It weighs .69 lbs. and the S5 is .92.
Yes but it would have weighed even less and been thinner without that keyboard.
Not necessarily. Where would the rest of the hardware go?
Your lack of enthusiasm that its not a slate makes sense, and I know you like your ‘virtual’ keyboard for occasional use on the S5, but the fact that it has a hardware keyboard seems compelling. I imagine it must be more useful than a keyboard on a Treo or Blackberry (or a virtual on-screen keyboard) but not as good as your full size bluetooth keyboard. Yet more evidence that you are right — there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution.
