I admit the latest news/rumors have given me pause to think about waiting for a Pre-like device on Verizon, but I agree with others that Sprint roams on Verizon and the plans will be cheaper, so I'll most likely dump my iPhone on June 6th since that device isn't good enough to make up for AT&T's marginal cell coverage. From that standpoint, it's essentially the same network. So I don't really see why it would be any weaker than Verizon's network. My one time calling Sprint, the service rep politely gave me my Master Subsidy Lock code with no questions when I asked. ;) All those surveys after speaking with them have a very nice effect.
