Just to be clear, the Mini 10v is physically larger and heavier with a lower screen resolution than the Mini 9. It is often the case that two machines have different screen sizes without different case sizes, but the 10v is larger and heavier, yet the screen has fewer pixels than the Mini 9, so it's a double downgrade.
It is remarkable that Dell is dropping such a successful design as the Mini 9 so quickly. I can only surmise that it is cheaper to manufacture the 10v display, given the fewer pixels. Netbook margins must be pretty small, so I imagine many configuration decisions are opaque without detailed supplier knowledge.

As noted in the direct2dell blog post, the Mini 10v makes for an almost identical replacement to the Mini 9, except for a bigger screen and keyboard..

The new Dell Inspiron Dell Mini 10v supposedly has similar chips as the 9 - perhaps making it a bigger OS X netbook. I'm waiting for a bit more horsepower and higher resolutions before taking part, tho.
