Coffee Break: Kickin’ it at Denny’s

coffee_man_2My work session outside the office today was in an unexpected venue, one I have visited occasionally but never for working. I was surprised earlier when I headed into the local Denny’s which is a mere three blocks from the house. I went for lunch as I have discovered I really like their salad with grilled chicken on top. Sure I could have had one of those staggeringly big breakfasts but the salad was the call of the day.

While I was eating lunch I heard my iPhone beep to indicate an email had arrived and when I pulled it out I was surprised to see the box pop up to tell me that Wi-Fi hotspot Dennys3767 was available and wide open. I let the iPhone connect up and sure enough it was nice and fast. And free. Late this afternoon when I was thinking it would be nice to step outside the office and work a bit I remembered how good and fresh the coffee is at Denny’s.

Off I went and spent some great work time, comfortably situated in a booth with lots of room. This was of course accompanied by that bottomless cup of good coffee that Denny’s is famous for. Talk about a great work session and just blocks from the hacienda. Sweet. I have a feeling I am in trouble now that I’ll likely be hanging out in Denny’s a lot more.

  • Here in the L.A. areas, most Denny’s locations have been advertising free Wi-Fi for the last year or so.

  • Oh the hundred’s of gallons of Denny’s coffee I’ve consumed. Many a late night have been spent with friends at the local Denny’s. Got to love that their late night appetizers menu is called “The Munchies.”

  • I’m sure you areaware of this, but wanting to make sure your readers are aware:
Be careful with ‘public’ wifi spots … confirm they are actually being hosted by the establishment you are visiting. If someone close by is ‘hosting’ the service, they can track/monitor the data going across it.

  • The walk to Denny’s will be good for you and will help control your blood glucose.

  • How’s the power outlet situation at Denny’s? One thing about the coffee shops vs. the diners when it comes to web working is that the coffee shops tend to have better access to the non-drinkable juice. ;-)
