Palm Pre- the Wait is Over

Kevin was recently asking where his Palm Pre information was that he’d signed up for way back when. I signed up for it, too, and I can now answer that the information just came in via email:

Pre info

Yep, that’s it. It’s time for Palm and Sprint to fire the PR firm they are using for the Pre launch.

  • Yup, finally got my email at 1:06pm EDT today. I’d rather have the phone, but I’ll take the email for now. ;)

  • lol. yup you are so right James. I’d love to see the numbers from the launch day. it actually can give us an estimate of how big is the geek community that we live in. not sure how many non geek people are exposed to this (probably great) product ATM.

  • 10-14 weeks for the rebate? Yeah right. Heck, by the time I get my rebate, I’d only have another 3 months to wait to get it on Verizon. Maybe I won’t switch. Geez.

    • I don’t think I can stand the suspense for much longer. And I’m in Australia:( God knows when it will make it down here!!

  • Like I said in the earlier post, I firmly believe that this is a soft launch for the Pre. In June (the 21st) the advertising campaign will fully roll out, and there should be a ton more in stock by then.

After the actual demo at CES, did Palm do ANYTHING right abut the Pre launch? Maybe, but there were so many screw-ups — including the one you just mentioned — that no one noticed.

It’s rather sad to see that Palm’s engineers may have kicked butt and created an impressive device (based on the positive Pre reviews I’ve seen), but that the rest of Palm (i.e. sales, marketing, management) are complete morons. If the Pre is a success, it will be because the engineers put all of Palm on their back and carried them there.

  • My Sprint store employees didn’t know they were opening at 8AM when I visited today. And Joel from Geek.com had the same experience when he called his local store to find out what time he could buy a phone. It may be a cluster in the AM…

Oh, and I swung by tonight – not a single camper. I suspect the pre-launch hype isn’t going to match sales. And I hope Kevin holds off long enough to see what Apple unveils before making a purchase. Breaking that Sprint contract won’t be cheap.

  • it won’t get to VZN in 6 months!! palm said they haven’t made a deal with anyone but sprint so far. and there are more than 6 months til 2009 is over

  • Is it better than Apple iPhone. I don’t think there is any better touch screen phone than Apple iPhone in the market. It’s cheaper than iPhone but for me quallity matters.
