ThinkPad T400s Arrives: Thin and Light, 14-inch
A very light box arrived at Mobile Tech Manor this morning with a new ThinkPad that has not been announced yet. The T400s is a 14.1-inch ThinkPad that is only 0.83 inches thick and weighs under four pounds. It has the typical ThinkPad super build quality in a thin and light form that is perfect for working on the go. I’ll be putting it through its paces, but for now here are some pics that hopefully show how great this ThinkPad is looking to be so far:
- ThinkPad T400s
- Back view, thin
- Bottom view
- Left side
- Right side
- Thin profile
- That ThinkPad keyboard
- New oversized ESC key
- New oversized DEL key

Just when Apple convinced me to get a Macbook Pro, Lenovo gets busy on a functional and comparative product. Looks good.
I’m looking to replace my T61p maybe they will upgrade the entire line, 15″ maybe a 17″ thin business class monster? Yeah, now I’m rambling.
Rob: I’m in the same situation. If there were a T700s (thin 17″ version), I’d buy it immediately. Otherwise, the new MacBook Pros are a very attractive (and unfortunately expensive) option.
Why the enter button is smaller than in another T400s???
Is that an option that can be choosen?

Looks good. This fills a niche between the X301 and the T that was currently unfilled. As long as the pricing is only slightly higher than a normal T400, this may be a good choice for me to replace my X61s. I love the small size, but would always like to get a bigger screen.
I have been using a T400 for several months now, and I love it! I have been running Windows 7 on it as well, and it runs extremely well. Fastest booting machine I have ever had. Keyboard is great, as James says, build quality is great. Has a built in webcam, fingerprint reader, wifi switch, and more. I definitely recommend it as a great value!
Ok…sorry, just realized this is the T400s not a T400. Big difference! Still love my T400 though
Al, the “enter button” is smaller on American keyboards, larger (and L-shaped) on some European and Oriental market keyboards.
I’m curious to know if the hard drive is 2.5″ and not 1.8″
I hope.
Looks cool but where is the battery?
Great TP
I hope it in 15′ or even in 17′ ….!??
Has it a SATA 300 coz all the TP now runs SATA 150 .
Great review – awesome machine!!! Think this will give all those techies much to shout about!!
