We kid our MobileTechRoundup co-host about his addiction to mobile phones, an addiction even greater than my own. Matt Miller readily admits his addiction is real, but it’s not a bad thing, as he readily shares his experiences with all of these phones with us. His latest conquest is the Nokia N97, the latest superphone from those folks in Finland. Matt has a full review to fill us in about the new phone, along with his usual nice video touches. How does he like the N97? It seems he likes it overall, but was surprised at the amount of memory installed:

Where is my memory? While the N97 does come with integrated 32GB of Flash memory (about 29GB available) there is very little ROM RAM on the device. I saw only 37.9MB of Flash ROM when I went to install my first program and was blown away by this low amount. My Nokia E71x has a whopping 100MB available for application installation and I think this is PATHETIC for the N97. This may get to be an issue with all of the widgets that have to run on the home screen and I just don’t understand why Nokia would limit the ROM RAM so much. I understand it is a cost thing, but for $699 there really should be NO limitations on the device, right?

  • Nokia has not declared the ROM/RAM size. I only believe official Nokia announcements … It takes more than an addition to be credible …

  • From everything I’ve read about this phone, it sounds like it’s a pretty huge flop.

I think Nokia really needs to go back to the drawing board. Maemo 5 really can’t come soon enough.

  • Matt, how many different email accounts can you have on the N97?

  • This does not make sense in regards to memory. Who cares how much memory is free on the C drive. It has 32GB of memory on its built in drive. Install your stuff there. It works just like other s60 phones when you can install to the memory card. There are some apps that need to be installed on C so put them there, otherwise use the 32gb part.

  • Lucky Matt…I pre-ordered my white N97 on Amazon and while Nokia is shipping out their pre-orders, Amazon has changed the status of the device to “Out of stock” :( I guess I’ll just have to wait a while longer to get mine.

  • I think it’s going to be a miserable flop. People are returning their devices.
