Toshiba waited for a while before entering the netbook market and according to a review on Laptop Magazine, the company must have spent the extra time figuring out how to get 8.5 hours on a single charge of the 6-cell battery. The Toshiba mini NB205 looks to be a very nice netbook with a good keyboard, great trackpad and that battery life, which puts it at the top of the class.

The design of the Toshiba definitely looks first-rate and the aesthetics are very nice. It has all of the components one expects from a good netbook with the Atom processor, as well as a unique metal keyboard option. Laptop Magazine is very impressed with the Toshiba, and for good reason. The $399 is typical for the genre and it looks like the Toshiba may be the netbook to beat for now. The reviewer gave it the Laptop Magazine Editors’ Choice.

  • Hi think that Toshiba have hit on a winner here with the Nb205. It looks great, especially the chiclet keyboard and that 8+ hr battery will appeal to just about anyone.

    well done Toshiba

  • This isn’t their first netbook, their first one was an ugly and overpriced box.

Certainly looks like a much better attempt this time around though.

  • I’m glad battery life is becoming so important to the netbook makers. Raw processesing power is nice, but I need all day battery power.

  • I liked the looks of their first one better looked a little retro, guess it’s performance sucked a bit though. The new one looks like just another Clevo machine.

  • i agree with mitchell, Toshiba’s first netbook is a disappointment. the NB205 looks better than the HP Minis. i’ve tried typing on the NB205 and i really loved its keyboard. they’re not as big as HP’s, but they’re definitely bigger than the MSIs and Acers. pricing here in the philippines is a bit on the expensive side though as they’ve included 0% for 12 months credit card subsidy.

  • I have a Acer Aspire One ZG6,running Windows 7 RC, and it gets 5hrs+ even when wireless is on and the screen is full brightness! It’s not 8hrs, but 5 is quite good.
