UPDATE: eReader for iPhone Still Not Updated- Doesn’t Work with iPhone 3.0

eReader 2.1

UPDATE: Fictionwise has indicated in the comments to the original post that the version currently in the App Store is still the old version. The new version is still waiting approval and release by Apple. We will provide an update when the new version has been released by Apple.

I am so dependent on eReader that when the iPhone 3.0 update broke eReader for that device, I was lost. That update made the bookshelf portion of the reader stop working, rendering it pretty much useless. The folks at Fictionwise let me know that they had submitted an update for eReader to Apple a week before the iPhone 3.0 update release and that they were not happy that it was taking its sweet time showing up.

I have been checking the App Store daily to see if the update for eReader would appear and today I was rewarded with the new version 2.1. I have installed it and am happy to report it is working fine with iPhone 3.0. The update is free, of course, so if you’ve been missing your eReader on the iPhone, you’d better go get it now.

  • Odd. 2.1 was the last version I downloaded before 3.0 and bookshelf still broken on 3gs

  • Michael stole my thunder: version 2.1 is the one that I had installed prior to the 3.0 update and it does not work. Please, please Fictionwise! Fix it now!

  • James, I think that you are mistaken. I am waiting for the update as well, but 2.1 is the version that still does not work on the 3GS. I have sweitched to using Stanza now, and had not realized how much it had improved since I had originally tried it. In fact, I may stick with it, even after eReader gets updated.

But 2.1 is still not working for me.

  • That version number is what shows on the About… page. This new version that I got today works fine on my iPhone 3G now. The older one did one work as you know. I had deleted the old version prior to checking today so maybe the replacing of it made it work? It’s a mystery but it’s working flawlessly for me with the version installed today.

  • James, I thought you were crazy when I read your articals about reading books on a phone. I finally gave it a try. You are so right. Best thing I ever did.

    Thanks

  • Yeah, mine is not working either. Not able to go back to the bookshelf to select another book. If you uninstall it and reinstall it, it works a couple of times but soon the bookshelf stops coming up again.

  • I’ll add my chorus here saying that the ereader 2.1 version I have installed is the same I’ve had installed since I did the 3.0 update, and it still doesn’t let me exit a book… so far I’ve been limping by on Stanza and the Kindle app, but still not the same!

  • Hello,

We are not sure what’s going on here. Apple has not approved our fixed version which is 2.1.1, it still shows in our account as “In Review”. We also did not receive the usual email notification that the new version was approved. As far as we can tell the old version that is not compatible with 3.0 is still the one in the app store.

I’m crossing my fingers that we get our notification later this morning and somehow it’s rolling out in some odd fashion.

  • New update is up and working great!

  • It is out now and Fictionwise reminds us it can take 2-3 days for all the Apple servers to roll it out.

  • Loving the new update, works flawlessly!!!

  • Got the fix. Still doesn’t launch on my 3GS.

  • I’ve downloaded 2.1.1 onto my 3G S and it is worse. Now, after it crashes out trying to connect to my eReader and Fictionwise bookshelves, it won’t start again. It just loads the splash screen and then after a few seconds crashes back out to the iPhone icons screen. I deleted it, rebooted, reinstalled it, rebooted, and it happened again. Looks like I’ll have to get used to Stanza.

  • Just downloaded the update and everything is working fine on my iPhone 1st gen.

    EdW — 8:36 PM on June 25, 2009 Reply

  • My 2nd gen touch is fine with the update.

  • The new update was working on
y iPhone 3g with system 3.0 bur now that I’ve traded it in for a 3gs it no longer works because it keeps disappearing! I will download the app, download books unlock books and then a few minutes later it will have vanished from the iPhone. This has happened 8 times now , it is not a fluke.
