You have likely heard today that Firefox 3.5 has gone gold, unless your Internet Explorer browser is hung up again. I’m kidding of course. Firefox 3.5 has a very fast JavaScript handler that makes a big difference on many web pages.

WebWorkerDaily reports that this production version is not much different than the Release Candidate version. They reviewed that version so you can get good insight into the benefits you may receive by upgrading to 3.5 by reading their review. I have been using it since its release and it is definitely one speedy browser. :)

  • I’m not happy with this version as they seem to have downgraded the colour management. So the colour is wrong (too dark mainly) on most images on the internet. It lost ICCv4 support in this version. You can see for yourself here: http://www.color.org/version4html.xalter

I hope they fix this quickly.

  • (The sort of wrong colour you’ll get in practice will depend on your screen. And if your OS doesn’t support colour management this is all moot.)

  • I’ve been running this all evening and I’m afraid I’m yet to see any of the performance improvements Mozilla have been promoting. Tab switching and management is better and the private browsing is better designed than IE8 but it’s no faster than the previous version.

Are any of you seeing noticeably better performance?

  • I don’t know if it’s coincidence, or related, but I use a NIKON utility (ViewNX) to manage the raw files from my SLR and add geotag details. This morning after upgrading Firefox to 3.5 I noticed that the geotag portion of the tool no longer allowed me to properly add data to photos, though it still correctly displays pins from previously tagged photos.
