Coffee Break- Pre vs. iPhone Camera
I should be working, I know it. Instead, I am having a good time using the HP Mini 1000 running Windows 7. I am in a terrible lighting situation, so I figured it was a good idea to compare the Palm Pre camera to the iPhone 3G. Note this is the older iPhone, not the spiffy new 3GS. I figured it’s a good test of the Pre camera with the flash, since the iPhone 3G lacks one. The verdict? Both cameras pretty much suck.

A combination of the best of each would be better than either…the Pre, in this example, has much better depth of field (translating to superior focus) and captures off-center images better. The iPhone has better color saturation.
I had a Pre and I now have a 3gs. IMO, the Pre has a better camera from a focus standpoint. All of my 3gs picts are just not as sharp but the color on both is good. Actually I am a little disappointed in the 3gs’ camera (but video is nice!).
3GS camera dose a lot better then the 3g. They should have added the flash too though :p. The adjustable auto focus beats having the flash on the pre IMO. But yeah, if your used to shooting DSLR’s all day they pretty much stink.
This has NOTHING to do with the phone cameras, I know, BUT just had to say that your comment about having so much fun using the HP Mini 1000 running Win7 made me leave my Desktop and grab my HP Mini 2140 HD ALSO running Win7!!
Have to say that I am totally smitten with the 2140 w/HD screen. Currently got Win7 and UNR 9.04 running on it and am thinking about putting OSX on it using a spare hard drive I have.
