wimax logoSprint is officially launching 4G coverage, formerly known as WiMAX, in Portland, Atlanta and Las Vegas in August. We know from a reader that Vegas has been lit up with WiMAX for a while now by Clearwire but Sprint has officially notified the media that it is pushing their big green button in these cities.

WiMAX has long been pushed as the next big thing in the high-speed broadband coverage game, but lengthy rollout schedules and competing 3G networks have dampened spirits somewhat. Sprint has a 51 percent stake in Clearwire, the operator of the CLEAR network.

  • I’m confused . . . is Sprint’s WiMax just the same service as Clear, but rebranded, or is it a separate network?
