Amazon Testing Text Notifications
Amazon is testing using SMS messaging to provide shipping notifications to customers. It is an opt-in service that will send you a text message when your package ships or is delivered. The company says the text message notification is in the testing phase, and is only available to a small set of customers. There is an FAQ explaining how the notifications work along with how to get signed up. Those of you who obsessively check online to see where your new gadget purchase is will want to give it look.

Amazon recently gave me the opportunity to receive text message notifications related to an item I’d purchased. I received no SMS message, when the item shipped. I did, however, receive an SMS when the item was delivered. Trouble is, that delivery SMS was sent a day after the delivery. Shipping this time was USPS; my suspicions are that the delay in sending the SMS was on the shipper’s end, not necessarily on Amazon’s.
Anyway, I suppose any notice is better than no notice. I enter the house, through the garage. I might have missed the box, sitting at the front door, without the SMS delivery confirmation.
Delivery confirmation might be most useful, for items you puchase and have shipped directly to someone else.
