Tripit for iPhone Released: Plan Your Trip and Share It

tripit-iphoneWe’ve covered Tripit before, and the service has grown dramatically since its appearance a couple of years ago. Tripit makes it a breeze to plan trips and keep informed of changes such as flight delays.

We’ve just heard from the folks at Tripit that they have just released a version for the iPhone that is available now at the App Store. The app is optimized for the iPhone interface, and it caches the trip information on the phone, meaning you can access your trip info all the time, even when you’re offline. You can access your important trip data even if the iPhone is in airplane mode. All access, all the time. It’s great to see the Tripit folks continuing to improve their offering with this app.

The app is free, the best kind.

TripIt Mobile: your travel itinerary in the palm of your hand

Iphone_shot_2I started using TripIt back in December and although I don’t travel much (do coffee runs count?), I like the value this free service provides. TripIt organizes your travel plans in one place, so you don’t have to dig through mounds of paper to find the street location of that hotel room you reserved or wonder what the last digit of that flight number is. Today the company announced a mobile-friendly site for iPhones, Palm Treos, RIM BlackBerry devices and any other mobile device with a browser. The older TripIt to Me service that sends text messages with your travel plans is still up and running, but having everything in one web page is a great second option. You can also see if other TripIt users are close-by, which always good for a paging prank if you happen to be in same airport. I have to pick my father up from Philadelphia International Airport later today, so I’ve already got his flight plans in my TripIt account. Since the mobile website offers Alerts for delays, I’ll know if have time for a Starbucks run on the way to the airport. Hit up http://m.tripit.com on your handlheld once you’re hooked up with a free TripIt account. Upon first inspection, I may not need the TripIt synchronization with Google Calendar that I was using.

TripIt update: they fixed my CES itinerary

Home_img_step1Yesterday I mentioned TripIt, a web-service that helps you manage your travel plans. Specifically of interest to mobile tech readers is their new TripIt To Go offering: you text or e-mail the service and they immediately return your travel information to your phone. Sounded great, so I forwarded my American Express Travel confirmation e-mail to TripIt and the service fumbled: only my return flight appeared in my account, no other details.About seven hours later, I received two e-mails from TripIt. The first note indicated that my AMEX Travel deets weren’t fully processed when I sent them, but the problem was researched and resolved. I logged in to my TripIt account and sure enough, all of of my travel plans were there! The second note from TripIt came looked less of an auto-generated system message and was from Andrea, a TripIt Product Manager. Andrea sent me a courtesy e-mail to apologize and to let me know that my trip information was updated. Nice! The first thing I thought of (and I’m sure you are too) was: did I get special treatment because I blogged about TripIt. My gut says no, although I can’t be certain. When I first reviewed my account and noticed that most of my travel plans were missing, I clicked the Feedback button on TripIt’s site. There was a five-star rating system and I chose two stars which meant that some information was missing from my travel plans. I also left a brief note in the feedback system explaining that only my return flight was shown and that I used AMEX Travel. Regardless of why the issue got fixed, it’s always nice to see a web-service address problems; I’ll chalk this one up to TripIt’s beta status and I’ll be testing the TripIt To Go feature in a few weeks.

TripIt To Me: text a request, get itinerary on your phone

TripittomePerfect timing for a new mobile service that helps you keep up on your travel plans. I was just loading up my calendar with CES appointments when I saw Business Hacks give mention of TripIt. This beta service organizes your travel plans and the newest features are perfect when you’re on the go. Need details of your itinerary like a flight confirmation number or address of your accomodations? Shoot a text message (or an e-mail) to TripIt and you’ll get the info beamed right back via TripIt To Me. Additionally, the service integrates with many desktop and web calendar solutions, so if your flight gets bumped for example, the information is automatically entered in your calendar.Since CES is around the corner, I thought to give TripIt a chance by using their auto-itinerary service a try. The concept sounds great: forward your e-mail travel confirmation from a supported airline or travel agent and TripIt will automatically match your trip details to your TripIt account. I booked my CES trip through American Express Travel, which is a supported agency, and forwarded my confirm to TripIt, but only the return flight information was integrated into my account. My flight out and my hotel deets are missing; no worries as I can enter them manually, but clearly there’s some glitches in the system.
