We Have a New Look! What Do You Think?

By James Kendrick | Thursday, October 8, 2009 | 6:17 AM CT | 85 comments |

jkOTR New LookWe warned you we were rolling out a new site design so your eyes are not playing tricks on you today. The new design rolled out last night and is all sparkly and new. We really love it and hope you do too. Take a look around and see how much easier it is to get around the site, that was one of our goals. We think you’ll also find the site loads much quicker than the old one, and I can tell you it displays very nicely on phone browsers. We tested everything but with such a major change we might have missed something. Leave a comment if you see something not working as it should so we can stomp that bug. Also leave us a comment to tell us what you think of the new design. We do all of this for you and your thoughts on the design matter far more than ours. Enjoy your stay at jkOnTheRun. We’re glad you’re here.

Take Our Survey For a Chance to Win a $50 iTunes Gift Card

By Kevin C. Tofel | Monday, August 10, 2009 | 10:30 PM CT | 4 comments |

While we don’t want to inundate readers with surveys, we do want to try and offer potential advertisers useful information about our readership. This helps maintain relevance on the ads you see. Sorry we can’t turn the ads off entirely, but we do have to pay the bills somehow. ;) This information also helps us focus on areas that intrest you, the readers.

This is the second survey of three that will help us create our 2010 Media Kit for potential sponsors. Rest assured that no personally identifying information is passed along — we’re simply aggregating the overall information to gather information about our readership as a whole. Some of you were kind enough to provide useful feedback on our last survey, and for that, we say “Thank You!” We’ve tried to make these questions and answers a little better due to your direct feedback. No survey is ever perfect, but hopefully, this one is better than the last. If you have all of five minutes to help us out, we definitely appreciate it. And to say thanks, everyone who completes the survey has a chance to win a $50 iTunes gift card.

Happy Fifth Birthday to Us!

By James Kendrick | Tuesday, June 16, 2009 | 4:09 PM CT | 21 comments |

Time flies so fast when you’re having fun that we totally missed an important date here on jkOnTheRun. That date would be our fifth birthday, as the site fired up for the first time on May 10, 2004. That’s a lot of years in blog years, and I must say, it has been a wild and wonderful ride. Thanks to you the readers for making what we do so much fun and worth all of the hard work. Happy belated birthday to us!

New jkOnTheRun Feature: Daily E-mail Newsletter

By Kevin C. Tofel | Friday, April 24, 2009 | 1:11 PM CT | 5 comments |

feedburner-email

We’re trying something new here on the site since it’s been requested at various times over the past several years. See that Daily E-Mail Newsletter bit in the sidebar? It just appeared today and it sends our content to you through e-mail. If you sign up with a valid e-mail address and confirm your free subscription, you can expect one e-mail per day with all of that day’s content, courtesy of FeedBurner. If we don’t write something on a given day (rare, but possible), you won’t get an e-mail. Of course, you can always end your subscription at any time as well: we have no desire to clog up your Inbox!

Your e-mail address won’t be used by us nor collected by us for any other purpose other than to deliver the daily newsletter, so rest assured, we’re not farming for e-mail addresses. ;)

coffee_man_2Just a reminder that I will be hanging out at Coffee Groundz today from around 2 – 4 pm. Drop by and say hi if you are in the area, who knows what cool gear you’ll see. Here’s what you’ll almost certainly see in person:

  • Viliv S5 Premium
  • Sony VAIO P
  • Intel Classmate Convertible
  • Lenovo w700ds (if I can figure out how to get this behemoth there)

Coffee Groundz has free WiFi and is located at:

2503 Bagby, Houston, TX, 77006

Hope to see you there!

jkOnTheRun Meetup on Friday- See the Gear

By James Kendrick | Wednesday, April 22, 2009 | 3:59 PM CT | 6 comments |

Just a heads-up.  I will be at the CoffeeGroundz this Friday afternoon from about 1 – 4 working and meeting up with Stacey Higginbotham of the GigaOM team. If you are in the Houston Midtown area drop by and say hi. I’m sure I’ll have some cool gear to show like the Viliv S5 UMPC.

Here’s the deets on the location:

CoffeeGroundz, 2503 Bagby, Houston, TX 77006 (Note Google Maps puts the pushpin on the wrong street. It’s Bagby, one street over)
